College And Career Pre-Launch Steps

For most students, choosing a major and career can be overwhelming. Thinking about majors earlier is a good idea; besides keeping you motivated in school, having two or three possible careers in mind will help you create your smart fit college list later. This will help you hit the ground running in college, and will help ensure you graduate within four years (only 39% do so, according to the NCES). We systematically help you on your quest: starting with self-discovery to define your values, goals, personality type, learning styles, and strengths and weaknesses. Then we’ll guide you to find out what it takes to be successful. We’ll also help you learn about the outlook of the field, and help you set up and conduct informational interviews or job shadowing. Our coaching provides you with the tools to investigate and choose your major and career options.

Creating a well-thought out college list is one of the most important, and complex step in the college admissions process. According to a 2010 report by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, nearly one in three students transfer. Transfers are costly in terms of credits and time lost, not to mention having to start over socially and with the adjustment process. Therefore, it is critical to create a college list that is right for you. Our goal is to ensure you have smart-fit college list, and that you are excited about every school on the list. Creating the list begins with self-discovery, followed by choosing possible majors and careers. Next, our coaches help you find your smart-fit college criteria, through assessments and discussions. Finally, all of these filters and criteria are used to produce a complete list of schools that fall within three categories: reach (hard to get into), match, and safety schools (where acceptances and scholarships are likely).

The best way to make a great impression during an interview — whether it is with an admissions officer, alumni, or employer — is to practice, practice, practice! Not only will this increase your self-confidence, but you will also be well prepared due to the number and variety of practice questions your friendly college coach will throw at you. We’ll help you create a “60 second commercial” for the favorite question, “So, tell me about yourself”. We will also give you feedback on how to improve your interview responses, including the importance of body language. You will learn how to sell yourself by providing specific examples, and by putting yourself in the interviewer’s shoes.
